BMD Recognized for Health Law Practice

News Article

“Ever since its founding in 2000, attorneys at Brennan, Manna & Diamond have focused on offering a full range of services to all the firm’s clients, including developing industry-specific practice areas like healthcare,” said Matt Heinle, co-managing partner at the firm.

From day one we have sought to recruit attorneys from a wide variety of healthcare specializations,” said Heinle, who handles health law, corporate matters and mergers and acquisitions. “Today we have more than 20 attorneys who practice full time in the healthcare industry.”

The firm’s commitment to health law has not gone unnoticed. Recently Brennan, Manna & Diamond made the American Bar Association Health Law Section and Becker’s Hospital Review fourth annual Law Firm Regional Top 10 Recognition List for the Midwest.

The Top 10 lists, which are also created for the northeast, south, southeast and D.C. and west, represent the firms in a particular region that have the largest number of health law section members.

According to the Becker’s Hospital Review website the lists “reflect the law firms that value the leading educational programming, networking, policy activities, cutting-edge publications and other opportunities offered to their lawyers by the ABA Health Law Section.”

In a press release ABA Health Law Section Chair C. Joyce Hall, a member of Watkins & Eager, said “these firms have shown a deep dedication to the practice of health law and the ABA and we wish to recognize their contribution to the profession.”

“We are especially proud of our designation,” said Heinle. “We are the only northeast Ohio firm to be recognized, which is very impressive especially when you consider that Cleveland has quite a few national law firms with health law practices.

“We did not pay for this rating or solicit it in any way,” Heinle said. “It is all based on independent analysis.”

He said the firm’s attorneys possess a number of strengths in health law ranging from healthcare policy and strategy and regulatory compliance to reimbursement strategies and physician hospital partnerships.

“Our attorneys are involved in projects across the country in which they create and develop new joint ventures between physicians and hospitals.”

When the business law firm first opened in Akron, there were seven attorneys. In recent years, it has expanded both in terms of lawyers and offices.

Prior to 2015, the firm had locations in Bonita Springs and Jacksonville, Florida. It also has a joint venture agreement in place with the Chinese law firm Jade & Fountain, allowing it to extend its market reach internationally.

In May 2015, Brennan, Manna & Diamond opened a Columbus location at 250 Civic Center Drive, which has four lawyers.

In July, the firm started a Cleveland office, which is located in the Key Tower.

Attorney Jeffrey Miller serves as the managing partner in Cleveland. He joined Brennan, Manna & Diamond in May after leaving Kegler Brown Hill + Ritter, where he focused on labor and employment matters.

“I am overwhelmed by the firm’s entrepreneurial spirit and the world class attorneys who are practicing here,” said Miller, who grew up in Seven Hills. “The firm is looking to significantly expand its footprint in northeast Ohio and I am excited to be a part of that growth.

“Right now we are operating out of a temporary space in the Key Tower, while we finalize our permanent office space.”

Miller said there are three other attorneys in the office in addition to himself and the firm is expecting to hire a fourth person in the near future.

My plan is to grow the office to around 10 lawyers in the first year or two,” said Miller. “Healthcare law will be a focus along with labor and employment, construction and design law, business litigation and corporate advisory services.

“We want to be known as the premiere full-service northeast Ohio firm representing growth-oriented businesses,” said Miller.

In both Columbus and Cleveland, Heinle said the firm sought to recruit local talent as opposed to simply moving its existing attorneys into different offices.

“We recruit successful local attorneys so that we expand both our geographic reach and our client base,” said Heinle. “Our strategy has been very effective in our other markets and we are always looking for future growth opportunities.

“We are fortunate to have many clients who are expanding and we want to grow with them and offer local service.”
