General Counsel / Risk Management

BMD has the privilege of serving as General Counsel to several health systems, hospitals, and large multi-specialty medical groups. These clients do not have in-house legal departments; thus, BMD provides all legal and advisory services that customarily would be provided by an in-house General Counsel. In this role, BMD manages and provides all legal services required for our clients. While serving as General Counsel, BMD is a member of these clients’ executive staffs and participates in key governance meetings. This experience allows us to have a deep understanding of health care operations, reimbursement, trends, and strategic planning and implementation.

We also coordinate the risk management activities for numerous health care clients. We conduct risk assessments, corrective educational programs, and coordinate response to never events and other unanticipated outcomes. We have extensive experience with claims management and insurance procurement, including establishment and governance of off-shore captive insurance companies.

BMD traditionally provides the aforementioned services on a negotiated, flat-fee basis. This allows our clients to budget for these critical legal and risk management services. Nonetheless, BMD utilizes numerous alternative billing arrangements with our clients so that our engagement creates a win/win scenario for our clients and our firm.
