BMD has a distinguished history of advocacy before state and local government and regulatory bodies – appearing before government agencies, the state legislature (Ohio General Assembly) or state boards. The firm’s government affairs and public law attorneys work with private industry clients and government clients to develop partnerships, overcome legislative and regulatory challenges and provide practical, business-focused solutions that enhance their competitive position. 

Those government affairs and public law attorneys who are also registered lobbyists appear on behalf of clients in meetings and public forums with top ranking elected officials. We work with clients to understand where government touches their operations and then help clients navigate government processes and propose changes to law. 

Often, we are engaged to draft legislation for our clients, clarify or revise existing legislation and advocate for these changes. We also actively track proposed legislation affecting such diverse areas as economic development, health-related issues, spirits-related law, taxation, construction, land-use regulation, workers’ compensation and unemployment compensation laws. 

BMD works with the State of Ohio's Attorney General's office in a variety of ways by representing the Attorney General's Office as special counsel and on a variety of issues.  Our professionals have first-hand knowledge working with the State's attorney general's office as well as holding prior positions with them, allowing the team to assist clients in navigating the regulatory environment in which the AG operates. It also aids the team’s understanding of the political currents affecting the AGs and their staffs.
